He's soooo much older than 10. Really. I don't think 10 would EVER call the Atraxi back in 5x01 like 11 does. 10 sometimes threatened his enemies during their confrontations, and mostly when something extra horrible happened, like them taking Rose away or such. But never after everything was done, and just to scare them off. (Ok, in Family of Blood he punishes them, but there he actually does something to them as a punishment. This, here, is shere intimidation. And I LOVED it. OMG THAT SPEECH. THIS MAN, REALLY. The speech is fantastic. Basically, run. ALL THE LOVE.

DOCTOR:
Leaving is good. Never coming back is better. Come on, then! The Doctor will see you now.

The “eye” disconnects from the ship and scans the DOCTOR.

ATRAXI:
You are not of this world.

DOCTOR:
No, but I've put a lot of work into it. (examines tie) I don't know. What do you think?

ATRAXI:
Is this world important?

DOCTOR:
Important? What's that mean, important? (tosses tie and RORY catches it) 6 billion people live here - is that important? Here's a better question. Is this world a threat to the Atraxi? (throws another tie that lands on AMY’S shoulder, she gives it to RORY) Well, come on. You're monitoring the whole planet. IS this world a threat?

The ATRAXI projects a hologram of the Earth with scenes from history.

ATRAXI:
No.

DOCTOR:
Are the peoples of this world guilty of any crime by the laws of the Atraxi?

ATRAXI:
No.

DOCTOR:
OK. One more. Just one. Is this world protected? Because you're not the first lot to come here. (As the DOCTOR speaks, the projection shows Cybermen and Daleks, the Queen of the Racnoss, Ood, Sycorax, a Sontaran, a Sea Devil, Reapers, the Hath and the Vashta Nerada in the spacesuit) Oh, there have been so many! And what you've got to ask is... what happened to them? (the projection now goes from the first incarnation through the tenth before he walks through it) Hello. I'm the Doctor. Basically... run!

This was gorgeous. And this cap is gorgeous, even if I say so myself. He leaves her waiting for two years again, and she waits and then it's finally her time. (I so obviously ship it.)


AND THEN THIS HAPPENED, GUYS. 5x02 The beast below. I HAVE NO WORDS. The level of understanding The Doctor that Amy manages in the course of two days (or 14 years, whatever) is ASTOUNDING. And the dialogue, guys, and how they look at each other, I just can't.

The Star Whale didn't come like a miracle all those years ago. It volunteered. You didn't have to trap it or torture it - that was all just you. It came because it couldn't stand to watch your children cry. What if you were really old, and really kind and alone? Your whole race dead, no future. What couldn't you do then? If you were that old, and that kind, and the very last of your kind... (turns to look at the DOCTOR) you couldn't just stand there and watch children cry.

Amy, you could have killed everyone on this ship.

AMY:
You could have killed a Star Whale.

DOCTOR:
(faces her) And you saved it. I know, I know.

AMY:
Amazing, though, don't you think? The Star Whale. All that pain and misery... and loneliness. (looks sideways at the DOCTOR) And it just made it kind.

DOCTOR:
But you couldn't have known how it would react.

AMY:
YOU couldn't. But I've seen it before. Very old and very kind, and the very, very last. Sound a bit familiar? (they hug) Hey.

DOCTOR:
What?

AMY:
Gotcha.

DOCTOR:
Ha! Gotcha.

firstly: ELEVEN MY LOVE. i just rewatched all these eps recently (just got S5 on DVD, lol) and am falling ~in love with him all over again. he really is everything I could have asked for and matt smith is objectively superb. OBJECTIVELY. the way he goes from little-kid-in-candy-store to unhinged and chilling madman is a thing of wonder. and BASICALLY, RUN? BASICALLY, RUN.

TROLOLOLOLOL i wouldn't say i SHIPPED it then, but their dynamic was a++++ from the beginning. FOREVER FAVOURITES.

AND UGH OMG THAT LAST SCENE IN 5X02, THEY HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING, DORIS, favourite thing about them. I mean, this scene is all about amy ~understanding the doctor but dude, I will maintain, nobody understands amy like the doctor does. nobody. THE END. EVERYONE ELSE CAN LEAVE.

in other news, ~OMG THE 5X04/5X05 TWO-PARTER, BEST. THE FOREST SCENE. THE BEDROOM SCENE. BUCKETS OF TEENAGE EMOTIONS TBQH. it's weird because I really don't feature eleven in ~romantic or sexual relationships (like, i want to love doctor/river, but I don't see any desire on his side at all, which is saaaaaaadddd), AND YET. IDK IT'S PROBABLY MATT AND KAREN TBH, THEY ARE SECRETLY MARRIED. AND IT SHOWS. AND IT'S AWESOME. this two-parter + 'amy's choice' are why i'll never believe eleven just has platonic feelings for amy. WE MUST DISCUSS, DORIS. :O (lol can you tell that like no one else on my flist ships it.)

as for river, can't talk about her too much yet, but i will say that i too am CONFLICTED. mostly i think she has amazing potential as a character but i really DISLIKE what moffat did with/to her (and river/eleven) in s6. but i'll let you wade through all of that first. :S
